Bureo is a sustainable skateboard design that is made out of dumped fishnets from Chile. The name of the skateboard, Bureo, means “the waves” in the language of the native Chileans. The company writes the following about how the name came about:

“Selected in honor of the Chilean people, the name represents our mission. Just as a wave originates from a disturbance of wind along the ocean surface, Bureo is starting with a small change in an ocean of plastic. Through time and energy, the waves of Bureo will develop the force required to cause real change.”

Bureo’s Kickstarter campaign raised way more than the original goal was, so it’s bound to be a great succes.

Coolhunt 24: Future Food

Hello everyone,

Sustainability is up and coming and because of that, our foods are changing as well. Our foods have to become even more green and beneficial for our bodies to fit in to this transforming world. Technology is being combined with food to make it even more sustainable and smart.

The followong signals are examples of future stuff wich has to do with foods.

Soylent

For the busy humans out there, one-stop food options are going to play an important role in life. People don’t have a lot of time left to eat and drink good foods and drinks, but still want to be healthy and energetic. Soylent is a drink you can put together by yourself. Fill it with ingredients and vitamins you like and need and you’re good to go. This way of feeding ourselves is sustainable because we will stop using big amounts of energy and nature to produce and grow our “normal” foods.  Will this turn out to be the new way of eating?

Smithfield Foods

Smithfield is a company that produces foods in an convenient en sustainable way. The company is completely aware of the possible food problem that is right around the corner if we don’t change anything in our food system. Smithfield began to develop ways of producing food in a sustainable and animal- and nature-friendly way. The company is registered being a Certified Environmental Management System by ISO 14001. The ways of producing food like Smithfield Foods will remain to be very important to be able to feed our world population with high quality foods.

Niwa

With Niwa, growing your own foods will turn into an easy job. The in-home gardening system comes with an app that controls the environmental elements inside the system. You choose what kind of plant you intend to grow on the app, the app will send a signal to the grow system and this will adapt itself to create a perfect home for your future plant. Throughout the growing process the app will ask you several questions about the current appearance of the plant to keep the conditions inside the grow system perfect.

Coolhunt 22: Sustainable Mobility

Hello everyone,

As sustainable cities are making their way to the big audience, all kinds of sustainable devices and services are growing as well. There can’t be sustainable cities if there aren’t ways to make everything we do and produce eco-friendly. Mobility is an crucial part of any city, and it’s getting more green every day.

What is it?

Sustainable mobility is every kind of transport that is eco-friendly and convenient. My main example of this is Dirisolar, the solar zeppelin. Dirisolar is a project that might bring the zeppelin back in action. Since the Hindenburg disaster, wich took place 77 years ago, zeppelins were abandoned as they were too dangerous. Dirisolar is a new and improved zeppelin that is good for our environment at the same time. The zeppelin collects solar energy through solar panels and uses this energy to be able to fly.

Image

Why is it cool?

Dirisolar is cool because it is an original, convenient way of transport that is sustainable at the same time. It completely fits in this world of growing sustainability. Furthermore it transforms and improves an old and unsafe concept into an smarter and safer version of it.

Similar Signals.

Pelican: The first zeppelin to take off after the Hindenburg disaster. This zeppelin can carry up to 66 tons of cargo, is faster than a boat and cheaper than a plane!

Guapa Bamboo Bike: A bike made out of Bamboo, the same material most surf boards are made of. Bamboo one of the world’s fastest growing plants. The bike is ergonomic and sustainable.

Image

Quality of Life

Sustainable mobility improves your quality of life concerning physical wellbeing, material wellbeing and development & activity, because if we aren’t able to get from one place to another, we’re not independent, not mobile and not able to expand our ideas.

Coolhunt 21: Eco Friendly Gyms

Hello everyone,

In order to make mother earth healthy again it is important to turn our regular cities into sustainable cities. Cities that provide their inhabitants with green energy, fresh and clean air and eco-friendly,healthy food. An important part of this sustainable city would be a gym, to keep the inhabitants healthy and active. Not just a regular gym, but a gym that adds up to the idea of sustainability.

Image

What is it?

An example of an eco-friendly gym is The Green Microgym, located in Portland (USA), this is a gym with a smart concept. This gym converts human energy into electricity. The lacking energy the humans can’t produce is being filled up with solar energy. This self-sustainable model saves up to 37000 kilowatt hours.

Image

Why is it cool?

The Green Microgym and several similar Gyms are cool because they completely add up to the trend of creating sustainable cities. They are self-sustainable, green and smart. Working out with a goal might also provide a new kind of motivation to people who come to work out. The gym does not use or produce any energy that might cause harm to our planet.

Similar signals.

Green fitness Studio: Another eco-friendly gym, wich contains recycled floors, self-powered gym equiptment, water-coversing bathrooms and a roof made of cooling material.

Greenasium Fitness: A gym located in Encinitas, California. This gym comes with rubber mats wich are made out of recycled tires and floors made from renewable bamboo. Most of the fitness equiptment was bought secondhand to save energy that would be used in the production of new equiptment. As well as The Green Microgym, this gym uses the client’s energy to produce electric energy.

 Quality of Life

Eco friendly gyms improve quality of life in the field of Physical Wellbeing. Being active and healthy is key to live your life in good Physical Wellbeing.

Coolhunt 20: Ads vs Reality

Hello everyone,

We all know them, ads in our local bus station, on tv and on the internet. Everyone with an ever so slightly piece of brains knows that ads most of the times give a bit of an unrealistic impression of products and services. This thought gets confirmed by an experiment by Alphaila.

Image

What is it?

Alphaila took excisting photos of fastfood burger advertisements and compared them to the burger you actually get at the concerning restaurant. They set up an entire photo studio to take pictures of the real burgers from their best angle and with the best lighting. This gave the real burgers a fair chance to compete with the advertised ones.

Image

Image

The results of the photos show that what you see isn’t what you get at for example, McDonalds. There is a world of difference between the advertisements and the truth. The advertised version of the McDonald’s Angus Deluxe Third Pounder burger wouldn’t even fit in it’s box if it the advertised size would be the real size of the burger.

Why is it cool?

Alphaila’s experiment is cool because it offers us transperency in a world where fake ads and sugar-coating are the normal deal. It shows us how different advertising can be in comparison to reality.Get real, McDonald’s, get real..

Coolhunt 19: Isa e Vane

Hello everyone,

Transperant and pure restaurants are very popular at the time. We enjoy eating at restaurants wich make dishes with love for taste and authenticity. Raw foods are a good example of ingredients that add upp to this thought. Foodies that love pure and raw food will be well-satisfied after a visit to Isa e Vane.

Image

What is it?

Isa e Vane is a restaurant in Milan, Italy. Owners Isabella and Vanessa both love food that is prepared with all natural and healthy ingredients. The love for these foods  is what the restaurant breathes. The recipes they use are simple, made with a few natural ingredients and no artificial tastes or colours. The suppliers of their ingredients are selected by the quality of their goods, nothing else matters.

Image

Why is it cool?

Isa e Vane is a cool restaurant because it adds up to current trends named Authenticity and Transperancy. The restaurant is minimalistic both in dishes and interior. The dishes contain pure products produced and grown by people who put passion and pride in the their products. The dishes are simple but tasty and there is nothing to hide.

Image

I would love to see more restaurants like Isa e Vane. I love food that’s prepared with pure, fresh and natural ingredients. unfortunately i haven’t seen much restaurants like this one yet. Maybe the best is yet to come in our country?

Coolhunt 17: Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics

Hello everyone,

A lot of the cosmetic products we use contain tons of chemicals while natural ingredients can do the same job. Lush goes hand in hand with this fact and offers a huge amount of natural handmade cosmetics wich are accessible for everyone.

Image

Why is it cool?

Lush is cool because it fulfills a part of the huge crave to a more transparent world. Coolhunt 16: Restaurant Trust

Hello everyone,

Looking for an outstanding place to eat in Amsterdam? Restaurant Trust might be the way to go for you.

Image

What is it?

Restaurant Trust offers a brand new concept: you go there, have a drink and something nice to eat and you can decide for youself how much you want to pay for it. Yes, you decide whatever the price is going to be.

Image

The people running Restaurant Trust have trust in their own service and trust in the fact that the customers are willing to pay for great food and service.

Why is it cool?

Restaurant Trust is cool because it combines two huge trends, Transperancy and Co-creation. The concept is transparent because you pay exactly for what you get. You get to decide how much you thought your dining experience was worth. The concept involves a more passive way of co-creation. You won’t create a part of the actual dish, but you create the price.

I would love to experience a dinner at Restaurant Trust because I have never been to an restaurant with this ispiring concept.
